A Window with a View
This week Year 5 attended camp at Hill End, which was a wonderful experience for them all. Year 6 attended the Gala Day, and the high school held our Biennial Cabaret. As we have many photos of the Cabaret, they will speak louder than these words, so in brief:
It was a great success! There are many people to thank for this, as a show of this scale requires that students, teachers and parents cooperate to undertake the multifarious roles and functions. It demonstrates so much that is unique about our school.
First. to our wonderfully brave and capable students for entertaining us all throughout their four performances. The ensemble of actors, performers, stage managers and assistants, lighting operators, makeup assistants, and waiters, worked together throughout the last few weeks, strengthening their bonds in the last seven days. They were reliable, respectful and supportive of each other, understanding and upholding of the disciplines of performing. There was also a great display of talent! We are proud of you all.
Next, it would not happen every second year without the passion and talents of the teachers who support the students to go as far as they can go, and then some. In fact, we need the first year to recover! Kim has been Musical Director for many Cabarets now, and the calibre of performance he gets from the students is remarkable. There are many quiet hours of musical arrangement. In Elective Music classes and HSC Music, the students practice and gain confidence before stepping into the bands and ensembles. Kim ties it all together.
Kelly has taken the lead as Director for the first time this year and we congratulate her on her debut. This is a major undertaking as there are a lot of keen performers requiring fine tuning of their pieces. The Elective Drama classes had significant group numbers in this year’s show as well. Many new performers moved into the light with confidence and aplomb due to the support they received.
It is a great accolade to Kelly and Kim that 2017 Cabaret was a delightfully entertaining experience for all. Thank you both very much.
Neill Duncan and his Armee continue to entertain us and by gosh, they are terrific!
In addition to routines and roles, the majority of teachers were working behind the scenes and assisting with production, from set and lighting through to costumes, props, scenic art, catering, student support and supervision. The office staff were also working overtime! Many parents assisted with the Cabaret audience set-up and catering for each of the four shows, and without you we would not have been able to provide a relaxing ambience. As Caroline had needed to finish work a few weeks earlier than we had anticipated, Cindy Babbage, Cath Walker and Nancy returned to help us out.
What an extraordinary community commitment to our very own Korowal Cabaret!
Thank you all so very much.May you enjoy the photos as they appear over the next few weeks.
