A Window with a View
In week 5, and throughout this term, we have been fortunate that our fabulous sports program has not been washed. The sun shone upon us all at the Huff and Puff Gala Day on Tuesday. Whether in primary golf clinic or boxing, cross fit, athletics and skate boarding in high school, the students are being challenged to develop physical skills and thinking routines outside of their regular fields. Kizz has developed a PE program full of variety and fun.
On walking through the primary school on Friday afternoon, the classes were engaged in a range of craft activities. It was a hive of creative energy. Volcanoes were going off in Years 3 and 4!
Parent/Teacher interviews commence in primary this coming week and provide the perfect opportunity for viewing your children’s work and engaging in two-way conversations. Your feedback is valued by us all.
Last Tuesday evening we introduced Year 6 families to the ways of our high school. We have begun the process of preparing for the changes ahead. Our Year 6 students were provided the opportunity to process change through creating sculpture at Scenic World last term, and parents were invited to attend our ‘Impressions’ conversation with Tim Hannan and Rachel Peachy on the same evening. We now integrate the rhythm of the school day and pattern of subjects into the mix. If you were unable to attend the Tuesday information session, please do not hesitate to contact Liz and she will book a time to talk it through with you. Letters requesting confirmation of a place were given to students and emailed to families on Friday.
Next Tuesday evening we will be holding the Year 11 Information Evening for students currently in Year 10 and their families. We will discuss how our Pathways HSC system works, how the HSC works, the subjects on offer at Korowal, and respond to your questions. Teachers of HSC subjects will then visit Year 10 classes the following week to discuss individual subjects and answer questions.
Last term we held a meeting for Year 7 and 8 parents and carers regarding computer use. The conversations and issues raised included the impact of our ‘Bring Your Own Device’ on families and individuals, and requests for clarity around permissions, administration rights and parental controls on students’ computers. The follow-up meeting for Year 7 and Year 8 parents and other interested parties will be held this Thursday evening, 6.30 for 7.00pm, in G1.
We have approached Jayne Ansin of Pivitol Consulting to facilitate this meeting. Jayne is a Korowal parent and Director on the Korowal School Council, and has deep interest in having this discussion. We are aware that this is short notice, however Jayne is heavily booked for the next month and we promised to get this underway this term.
In addition to this, following on from class meetings across the whole school in Term 1, we have discussed at Board level the request for a P&F at Korowal. It was decided that a consultative meeting to explore this further would be beneficial. Jayne has offered to conduct a scoping meeting on Thursday 8th June, again at 6.30 for 7.00pm start. The consultation on scoping needs will include: What do parents want? What is missing from the community? How do we provide space for further parental inclusion? What are the benefits and pitfalls of a P&F? What is the best model for Korowal?
We are keen to have as many voices at these meetings as possible and we hope you are able to make either one, or both, if your interests extend to these topics.
Thank you for bringing your suggestions, ideas and concerns to us. We value your input enormously.
Have a lovely weekend!
