A Window with a View
Looking through the window with a view of Korowal, we see an egalitarian community that is inclusive, accepting, diverse, alive. It has always been that way. As a secular and independent school, we hold equal respect for all humans regardless of age, race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
Our core values remain true to our founding principles.
Very many years ago, when I started working at Korowal, the students wore rainbow colours and home knits.
Eventually thermal clothing was introduced, and rainbow thermals became the mainstay of our children’s clothing for the cold Leura winters. So much so, that the whole school production for our 25th Anniversary, ’To Granny’s and Beyond’, had a carnival theme, and the base costume for the primary students was rainbow thermals.
Today we are rainbow for good reason.
To quote the basic tenets of Korowal School, it is our obligation:
- To work consciously with love
- To hold every human being as both an unique individual of immeasurable value and a social being integral to the whole of humanity
- To enable the whole person to develop in a balanced and harmonious way, both as an individual and as a member of society
It is important for us to acknowledge that, as we move towards the plebiscite, many families are under stress and feeling marginalised in society. We are compelled to
Speak out in support of all, for this discordance is deeply concerning and damaging.
Love as conscious action is our chorus. If you find yourself amongst the marginalised please know that you matter to us.
Our obligation as a school is to ensure that we provide a safe environment for our students and their families. We care about your wellbeing. You are
Valued members of our community, and
Look to this day
