Well, what a busy last week of term we had! Caroline and Mel, on top of all the usual tasks that keep them busy, were able to put together the numerous documents, cards, gifts, powerpoint presentations etc. in preparation for Barb, Greg and Louise’s trip to China.
In Week 8 the primary teachers and students started collecting flowers, nuts and other interesting natural flora in preparation for their Bush Day mandala. Next Wednesday is that special time when primary students spend the day participating in natural fabric dying, bush cooking, constructing, weeding, and many other interesting activities which raise awareness of our beautiful environment, the patterns within nature, and the benefits of creative collaboration.
There are many things being prepared for through out Week 7 and into Week 8. Our K, 1,2 children are excited that their concert is fast approaching while Years 5 and 6 are more settled in their approach. Year 8 are looking at elective choices for the first time, Year 10 are preparing for their City Camp and Years 11 and 12 for their Trial Exams. Caroline has emailed the revised calendar this week and it is rich with imminent cultural experiences.
In Week 6, the change-of-season-bugs continue to impact the primary school and front office as staff and students battle to stay well. We hope that next week we will see more wellness than sickness! Thankfully, the HSC Drama students flew through their HSC Practical Examinations on Thursday, and we wish the Visual Arts students the same for their submissions of HSC work this coming Monday.
Week 5 saw the students gathering in the meadow, the sandpit, and classes coming outdoors whenever possible. What a pleasant week we had as the warmth crept in and blossom burst through in our beautiful gardens.
Already, Week 4 has passed. Our HSC students are closer to submitting their final Visual Arts body of works and the Drama Examiners will attend for the practical examination on Thursday 25th August. We were entertained by the student monologues and group performance last week and they are in good shape for fine tuning over these next two weeks. We send our support and belief in them as they step up to the final challenge.
The excursions and camp of Week 3 have brought new experiences to many students across the primary and high school. There were physical challenges with soccer and camp, and emotional confrontations with the Jewish Holocaust Museum. We thank the students for stepping up to these challenges and their teachers for supporting them. It is imperative that we enable the students to move out of the familiar and experience themselves in the unfamiliar, to development the skills to cope with change and challenge.
