2019 Art Express - Alia Grinvalds
The HSC major artwork of 2018 Korowal Graduate, Alia Grinvalds, has been selected to tour in the prestigious Art Express exhibition.
Alia's work contains resonances and echoes of some of the great visionaries who have sought to use photography as a mode of fine art expression. Aficionados of Dupain, Doisneau, Leibovitz and Arbus should be heartened to see the level of excellence and artistic expression that Alia has already achieved at such a young age.
It’s been said that you should “make a photograph” rather than “take a photograph”, and that’s exactly what Alia has done in her collection. From just a brief glance, you can see the hard work, heart-ache and visual endeavour that has been captured by this young artist.
Creating her ‘Vignettes’ was an emotional process for Alia, who can now reflect that completing the photographs allowed her to grow and overcome personal doubts in her ability.
Alia graduated from Korowal school last year and she achieved the highest performance band 6 in her Visual arts HSC.
“I found Korowal to be a hugely supportive environment, not only academically, but the staff would so often go above and beyond to ensure their students were all travelling ok … I am really grateful to have had the opportunity to go to this school”.
Korowal School sends huge congratulations to Alia and her teachers, Anne and Andrew.
Miss Grinvalds photographs ‘Vignettes’ will be exhibited at ARTEXPRESS from 5th March – 28th April, and then tour to The Blue Mountains Cultural Centre where we can see them locally from 11th May – 30th June.
