2019 International Women's Day - Blue Mountains Youth Council
This year as we celebrate International Women’s Day 2019 we reflect on the opportunities we
provide for our young women and girls for advocacy. Currently two of our senior students, Meg
Hill and Sinead Winn are representatives on the Blue Mountains Youth Council, with a third
student, Ruby Parsons Burns, on leave from the Council as she takes up her Rotary scholarship
in Japan. They advocate for youth in our area and make recommendations to the Blue
Mountains City Council. They are engaged in positive action for change, run youth consultations
and are active within the community.
This generation of young women are gracious in their strength and inclusion. They are leaders in
change. It is important that as educators we provide the environment and opportunities for open
philosophical discussions so that individuals unveil their passions and realise their dreams.
We encourage voice and we listen. We are capacity building.
Today we honour all the grandmothers, mothers and daughters in our community.
