Meg Hill's Korowal Story
Testimonials and Korowal Stories from Our Community
“the typical school enforced power hierarchy between teacher and student is replaced with something closer to a mentor and student relationship solely based on respect for one another”
Korowal is so much more than just a school to me. When I moved here in the middle of Year 9, I immediately felt at home within the nurturing and caring environment that is Korowal. I love that everyone within the Korowal community is always working together to ensure that each individual flourishes into a well rounded, educated and informed young member of society. I have never felt like ‘part of the system’ here at Korowal. That to me is the key part about why Korowal is such a great school. From as early as Kindergarten, children at Korowal are taught the principles of trust and respect. This carries through to how we interact with our teachers, referring to them by their first names. In the classroom, the typical school enforced power hierarchy between teacher and student is replaced with something closer to a mentor and student relationship solely based on respect for one another. There is something very humane about going to school and being able to interact with a wide variety of age groups. It is always a delight as a Year 12 student, to hear the giggles of Kindergarten students from the classroom next door, immediately lowering the stress felt during the HSC. I feel very honoured to have had the opportunity to attend a school, which is surrounded by beautiful bush views and native wildlife. Korowal will always be more than just a school to me, and I’m sure many others feel the same way too!
