At Korowal School, we aim to give our students the time and care necessary to develop their abilities and prepare them for an exciting and complex world. Our students are part of a community where their individuality is respected. We foster a school environment that is small enough for teachers to personally encourage and understand every student, creating the ideal conditions for academic success, personal growth, and social development.
We recognise that the transition from primary to high school is a significant milestone in a student’s life. At Korowal, we are deeply attuned to the specific developmental needs of early, middle, and late adolescents. Our approach is designed to provide the support and guidance necessary for students to navigate these stages with confidence, helping them to build resilience, form positive relationships, and develop a strong sense of self.
The essential components of our High School are closely aligned with those in our Primary School:
- Strong relationships between teachers, parents/guardians, and students
- Inspired, committed teachers
- Small class sizes
- A stimulating curriculum
- An emphasis on challenge and quality in all work

Year Mentors
Each high school class has a class teacher who meets with them for Morning Meeting every day, weekly Mentor Time, and typically teaches them one or two subjects. These teachers generally stay with the same class from Year 7 to 10, providing trust and continuity. This is complemented by the input from several other specialist teachers and our Wellbeing and Inclusive Education teams.
Stage Advisors
Each High School Stage (Years 7 to 10 & Years 11 and 12) has a dedicated School Leader who works closely with the Year Mentor to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. Stage Advisors also collaborate with our Wellbeing and Inclusive Education teams to ensure that students are seen and supported. It is our commitment that no student “falls through the cracks,” and that multiple adults are available for students to turn to for support and advice.
Curriculum
Korowal School is a registered NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) school, and we follow the Year 7 to 10 syllabuses developed by NESA. Our curriculum includes the Key Learning Areas (KLAs) of English, Mathematics, Science, Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE), Languages, Technologies, Creative and Performing Arts, and Personal Development, Health, and Physical Education (PDHPE).
We offer an exciting array of elective courses for our Year 9 and 10 students, including: Drama, Visual Art, Design and Technology, Multimedia, Philosophy, Japanese, Physical Activity and Sports Science (PASS), and Commerce.
While meeting the mandatory requirements of the NSW curriculum, our teaching and learning programs are tailored to the needs of individual students. We emphasize enhancing cognitive ability, critical thinking, and creativity through an interdisciplinary approach. Differentiation of the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of all students is a key feature of learning at Korowal.
We encourage students to take pride in their work and find a sense of personal achievement in their accomplishments. To support this, we provide quality materials for all academic and creative endeavours. Our contextualized curriculum maximizes students’ intrinsic interest in learning and helps them develop and meet personal educational goals.
Korowal’s high school students thrive on the new experiences and challenges brought by specialist teachers, elective subjects, and new friendships. Our student body is small enough for individuals to feel valued and known by their peers, yet large enough to offer a rich variety of social interactions and co-curricular activities.
